Understanding Your Options

Private (Unattended) Cremation

Sometimes called direct cremation or no-service cremation, this is a cremation without a formal gathering at the crematorium. While the term can sound clinical or impersonal, our approach ensures it is anything but.

You may choose to:

Spend time with your person beforehand in our welcoming chapel.
Participate in after-death care such as washing, dressing, or shrouding.
Have us care for them entirely on your behalf with the same dignity we would extend to our own loved ones.

Ceremonies Before Cremation

Cremation does not mean foregoing ceremony. Many families choose to gather before the cremation takes place. This can be:

A full funeral service in a crematorium chapel.
An intimate gathering in our Hurstville chapel or another meaningful location.
A quiet farewell with just close family present.

These services can include music, readings, photo tributes, rituals, and space for reflection. We work with crematoriums across Sydney, so if you have a specific location in mind, we will make the arrangements.

One advantage of cremation is flexibility. You are not bound to a specific timeframe, allowing space to plan something meaningful—whether that’s a week, a month, or even a year later.

Memorials can be held:

In a garden, by the sea, or in your own backyard.
In community spaces such as halls, galleries, or places of worship.
With ashes present in an urn, or without them.

Memorials After Cremation

As the first Sydney funeral director to facilitate shrouded cremations in partnership with Woronora Memorial Park, we are proud to offer this gentle, environmentally conscious alternative.

In a shrouded cremation:

Your person is wrapped in a natural fibre shroud.
They are placed on a specially designed shroud bearer for cremation.
Families choose this for cultural, spiritual, or personal reasons, or as a softer, more natural farewell.

Initial Conversation

We begin by listening—understanding your needs, wishes, and any special considerations. We explain all options in clear, accessible language, so you can make informed decisions without pressure.

The Cremation

We coordinate with your chosen crematorium, whether the cremation is attended or private. You can be present for part or all of the process, or we can manage it entirely on your behalf.

Personalised Planning

Together, we decide on the type of cremation, the timing, and any ceremonies or rituals. We can incorporate music, readings, cultural traditions, or spiritual elements that are meaningful to you.

Afterwards

Ashes are returned promptly—often within one to two weeks—and we can assist with choosing an urn, arranging scattering ceremonies, or planning a memorial.

Care & Preparation

Whether you choose to be involved or not, we treat your person with dignity and respect. If you wish, you can assist in washing, dressing, or shrouding, or simply spend time with them before the cremation.
